Our work

From sample to result, closer to home.

Our approach

What we focus on

01

Improving Access to Pathology

Community outreach, clear referral pathways, telepathology and digital consultation, and pathology services where they are needed most.

02

Research and Innovation

Mortality surveillance and disease trends, responsible AI in pathology, digital and computational pathology, and implementation research.

03

Education and Workforce Development

Workshops and webinars, training for residents, medical students and laboratory scientists, and mentorship.

04

Partnerships and Capacity Building

Working with universities, hospitals and laboratories, government agencies, professional societies, NGOs and international partners.

Community pathology outreach

Many patients at community clinics never receive their results. We are designing a service that follows each sample from the clinic to the laboratory and back to the patient.

WhatSample collection at partner clinics, tracked transport to the laboratory, and results returned to clinicians and patients.
WherePartner clinics, starting with a small number of sites.
HowDigital tracking of each specimen, and plain-language result messages and follow-up reminders in English and Twi.
We measureTurnaround time, the share of results that reach patients, and follow-up rates.

Telepathology and AI support

Pathologists are few and far between. Digitised slides let them read cases from anywhere, and AI tools can help them see the most urgent cases first.

WhatGlass slides digitised at partner laboratories and read remotely by qualified pathologists.
AI roleTools that help sort cases by urgency and prepare structured draft reports.
SafeguardA pathologist reviews and signs off every result. The AI never makes a diagnosis on its own.
We measureTime to report, agreement with pathologist review, and pathologist workload.

Mortality surveillance

Knowing why people die is the basis of good health planning. We help turn autopsy and laboratory findings into data that health teams can use.

WhatStructured, anonymised data on causes of death and disease trends from pathology findings.
Who uses itCity and national health teams, researchers and hospital leaders.
PrivacyData is anonymised and shared only under agreed data-protection rules.
We measureData completeness and timeliness, and how often it informs decisions.

Responsible AI

Every result checked by a pathologist

Human sign-offA qualified pathologist approves every result. AI helps with speed and order, never the final call.
Privacy firstPatient data stays protected, is used only for care and approved research, and is never sold.
Tested locallyWe check accuracy and bias on Ghanaian samples and languages before anyone relies on a tool.
Open by defaultTools we build with grant funds are shared openly so other health systems can use them.
